I photographed this lovely family in beautiful Folsom, CA for their family portrait and maternity session on a sunny and glorious spring afternoon. I’m raving about this day because it was the first sunny day after weeks of awful weather. We had been trapped inside for some time, and it felt amazing to get to spend time outdoors. I’ve had the biggest case of cabin fever this winter. I love working in my studio, but there is just nothing quite like getting outside and photographing in natural light! Folsom Lake really brought it for me this afternoon with all of the gorgeous sunshine. I am one happy photographer!
This mama had the adorable idea to wear matching outfits and matching flower crowns with her 2 year old toddler daughter. She is due with her second daughter this spring, and she was interested in a beach-y maternity session at Folsom Lake. I absolutely love this location! The way the beach is covered in smooth rocks and lined with beautiful trails and twisting paths, this spot at Folsom Lake has so many amazing backdrops for maternity and family portraits. When I shot this session, it was early Feburary, and like I mentioned above, we lucked out with some amazing weather and the lake was absolutely beautiful with the beginnings of spring starting to bloom. It was warm enough outside for these lovely ladies to wear white linen summer dresses and gladiator sandals, and their darling outfits complimented the scenery at Folsom Lake so nicely.
This soon to be big sister sure is a cutie, but when we first started our session, she wasn’t really feeling it, so I backed off a bit, and gave her some space. I stepped back, I loaded my camera with my longest zoom lens, and while she didn’t even know I was photographing her, I kept on snapping away . The candid shots are without fail always my favorites in a gallery. One day, in the blink of an eye, she will be a big girl and she will be able to sit still and smile on cue. But until then, I’m going to photograph Miss Ellie exactly as she is at the feisty and amazing age of 2 years.
I am so excited to photograph this family in a few short weeks again. They will be visiting my portrait studio located in Citrus Heights for their newborn session once their baby arrives. We got the chance to briefly chat about their newborn session while we were walking around Folsom Lake and I’ve been setting aside baby girl props ever since.
