I got to take Baby Emma’s newborn portraits when she was 12 days new. This family was interested in doing a mix of formal posed studio shots and some candid lifestyle shots around their home, and I was happy to set that up for them.
I actually prefer traveling to my client’s homes around the Sacramento area and setting up my gear in the comfort of their own house. Clients love the intimate feel to their portraits when I can document exactly what life looked like with a newborn -snuggles on the couch, feeding the baby in bed, changing diapers, singing baby lullabies while rocking the baby to sleep. These precious moments pass by in the blink of a sleep deprived eye, and it’s SO SPECIAL to have it captured forever. I’ve heard that it is also more convenient for the new mom and dad this way. I know first hand how tough it is to get up and out the door to make an appointment with a days old baby. If my clients go with the option of having me travel to them, it’s really no trouble for me to pack up my gear and set it up there. Plus as an added perk, I get the option of using rooms in the client’s home as an additional backdrops, which makes my creative heart happy. I’m going to have to frequently stop shooting so I can give the baby a snack break regardless of whether I am photographing them in my Citrus Heights studio, or in their homes around the Sacramento area. If the client feeds the baby in their nursery or living room, I can keep taking pictures and capture some truly special candid moments.
Several months back, I was able to photograph this lovely couple so I could create a pregnancy announcement for them. You can take a look at those pictures here:
It made me so happy to see my work hanging on their walls. If you look closely, you can spot some of these pregnancy announcement pictures hanging on the wall of Emma’s nursery.
Emma’s mom is a fan of neutrals-specifically white/cream, and florals. When she told me that she wanted something dainty, feminine, and with fresh flowers I was so happy to put together that look for her. It was as if she was describing my signature look. 🙂 If you’ve been reading my blog you may know that I LOVE incorporating fresh florals in my newborn work. When I took a trip to the florist I found a couple of stems of the most gorgeous baby’s breath, some of which I died pink. I made a couple of flower crowns for Baby Emma and also made that cute little floral print romper for her.
I love it!
Thanks again, guys! Congratulations on Emma’s arrival!!!
