Cake smash sessions are always so much fun! Photographing babies eating birthday cake can be messy, but it creates such a fun and unique backdrops for portraits and I always enjoy doing these portrait sessions. Celebrating a first birthday is a huge milestone for babies and an incredibly sentimental occasion for parents. It is hard not to shed a tear or two as your baby transforms into a toddler. After all this time of pregnancy, sleepless nights, and oh so many firsts, soooo many changes happen over a baby’s first year! Your baby is learning how to walk, play, and eat solid foods and now that this first year has come to a close, it’s time to celebrate and let them eat their first taste of birthday cake.
I can set up cake smash sessions at outdoor locations in the Sacramento area, but lately my studio cake smash sessions have been the more popular option. It is the time of the year where it is cold outside, and we have been having unpleasant weather so I haven’t been wanting to photograph baby models outside. Thankfully, I have the ability to set up my mobile photography studio at a variety of spots like at my client’s homes or at my studio located in my home.
I love styling all of my sessions with a theme, especially my baby sessions when I am capturing newborn pictures and cake smash portraits. This darling baby girl, Emma was a fabulous model. Her mom was interested in the colors pink, gold, and white. I used one of my favorite backdrops from LemonDrop Shop backdrop store, a white drop with gold foil polka dots and also made a backdrop out of helium filled pearl colored balloons. Emma’s mom brought along to her session some adorable tutus, headbands, and baby outfits that she picked up at an online children’s boutique. I just love all of these cute and cheerful colors.
Happy Birthday Emma! I hope you had an amazing day celebrating your first year of life.
