I love cake smash sessions! When you give babies their first taste of cake, it is so much fun to watch their reactions. When I capture first birthday portraits I end the session by giving the baby an entire birthday cake and letting them eat it all by themselves. These first birthday portrait sessions have been given the catchy name, cake smash session, because the baby ends up making a big mess out of their birthday cake, I snap a bunch of adorable candid photos, and it makes for an amazing portrait and first birthday keepsake. I love to capture the excitement and celebration of this huge milestone into a picture that I hope will be forever treasured by parents and babies alike.
I love my job as a Sacramento area baby photographer! I love working with children and especially little babies and I photograph them at all sorts of locations around town, both indoors in my studio and outdoor in natural light. Sometimes I will photograph babies with birthday cake at outdoor locations in the Roseville, Folsom, and Sacramento area, but studio cake smash sessions are always a popular option. I like studio cake smash sessions because It is so much fun to customize the backdrops and my clients love being able to pick out their favorite colors and personalize the setups.
This adorable guy, Max, was a fantastic model. I first met him a year ago at his newborn session (he was a great newborn model too! Take a look at his newborn portraits here-)
and it was so great to see him and his sweet family again. Max has grown leaps and bounds over this year. He can walk and say a couple of words now. He is a such a happy baby and I loved taking his picture.
I know I sound like a broken record when I go on and on talking about how much I love my job as a baby and family portrait photographer, but I really do! It is so much fun watching these little ones grow up and being there to document the milestones. My favorite shots from Max’s cake smash session would have to be the ones where he is eating his cake. It was absolutely darling the way he loved how that frosting tasted.
Happy Birthday Max!
